Climbing Monkey EPL 385 with rare original box manufactured by Ernst Paul Lehmann of Brandenburg between 1903 and 1910. This is an excellent example of one of the toy world’s most popular toys. This an early example of the Climbing Monkeys which is hand painted and they have a rough flocked sprayed coat. Later versions of the ELP No. 385 have a lithographed paint finish. Follow the directions on the box and with a gentle pull the monkey will climb up the string; relax the string and he will climb down again.
Dimensions: Height 20 cm
Condition: Some very minor paint damage is evident, overall in very good condition for age. The monkey still climbs and descends the string which is also original although the string does have a knot in it which prevents the monkey climbing all the way to the top. Could easily be re-strung if desired. The box is in fair condition for age with a tear to one of the corners of the lid.
